Bowsers owner, Kim Skarritt-Nelson, left the corporate world in 2004 and decided utilize her skills as a Groomer and Canine Behaviorist in a full-time capacity. Kim opened Bowsers By The Bay in 2011. Now specializing as a canine problem solver Kim has helped hundreds of dogs overcome their fears, phobias, and aggressive behaviors. She has held many workshops and seminars on the myths surrounding the Bully Breeds and actively advocates to change their image. In 2009, Kim started Northern Michigan’s first formal Therapy Dog group. Though the group is now defunct, Kim continues to do Therapy work with her dogs Kia (a senior Husky-Chow mix), Takoda (2 y.o. Red Nose American Pitbull Terrier) and Miley (1 -1/2 y.o. American Pitbull Terrier). Kim also is ‘mom’ to an 11 year old American Bulldog named Jersey. Jersey came from the Silver Muzzle Cottage’s hospice program. In Nov 2015, Kim started the Silver Muzzle Cottage Rescue & Hospice program which is dedicated to providing a home and love to seniors dogs in their last days, months or years.
Ellis McQuillan – Manager and Lead Rehab Trainer
Ellis was born and raised in Michigan. An avid animal and nature lover, most of her free time is spent on hikes with her 3 year old pit bull mix, Audrey. Audrey is a huge fan of Bowsers’ day camp, and is always excited “go to work”. Ellis is also a part time cake decorator, gardener, and traveler.
Fallon is an avid animal lover and has two dogs – 12 y.o. Husky/Rhodesion Ridgeback mix named Chewbacca and an 8 y.o. Boston Terrier named Grunt. Her hobbies include Roller Derby, playing the Ukulele, kayaking, hiking and drawing. Fallon also volunteers with the Silver Muzzle Cottage Rescue & Hospice program.
